Hiring Process
Once you have been offered a position by the GSI Coordinator, you will meet with department staff--Phil Walz and Heather Reed--to begin the hiring papework.
Collective Bargaining Agreement
The titles GSI, Reader, Tutor, and are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the University and the United Automobile Workers (UAW). Under the language of the contract, students hired in these titles are referred to as Academic Student Employees (ASEs); you will find this acronym used in the contract and in campus communications.
The current UAW Academic Student Unit contract is available here. GSRs are not covered by the agreement.
